(Phnom Penh): His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal, Minister of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, affirmed that Japan is a close friend of Cambodia and has greatly assisted Cambodia in its quest for peace and helped restore it in all sectors, especially in connecting the physical infrastructure of the region through the construction of National Road No. 5, which connects many provinces in Cambodia as well as neighboring countries. At the same time, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister requested the Japanese side to continue to cooperate in the field of land and housing.

His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister spoke on the occasion of receiving a courtesy call and working discussions with His Excellency ISHIBASHI Rintaro, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, and His Excellency UENO Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, on the morning of December 21, 2023 at the Ministry’s Office.

His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister welcomed the visit of His Excellency ISHIBASHI Rintaro to the Kingdom of Cambodia at this time, at a time when Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has just concluded a successful visit to Japan. This clearly demonstrates the close and comprehensive strategic relationship between Cambodia and Japan.

His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal said that the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction plans to introduce policies at the appropriate time so that Cambodian people have decent housing and families live in harmony, as the country is currently peaceful and the people’s living standards are also improving.

At the same time, the Ministry of Land Management will transform the construction industry in Cambodia into an industry that is affordable and can create jobs and income for Cambodian people. Therefore, His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister hopes that many Japanese companies will join in providing expertise, knowledge, as well as low-interest financing.

In response, His Excellency ISHIBASHI Rintaro, Deputy Minister of Land, Japan, said that 2023 is the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Japan, and Japan hopes that this year will be an important year for the comprehensive strategic partnership by further strengthening this friendship.

In the past, the Japanese Ministry of Land has also collaborated with the Cambodian Ministry of Land Management in contributing to many specialized sectors, and Japan will continue to provide cooperation on the implementation of more projects.
