(Phnom Penh): The National Committee for the Management and Development of the Coastal Zone of Cambodia (NCCD) continues to monitor, supervise and evaluate the development project of a 2,700-meter high-end public recreational sand resort located in Thmey Village, Prey Thom Sangkat, Kep City, Kep Province, and promotes studies on the concept of organizing a bicycle tourism route along the Cambodian coast with the goal of expanding more recreational places for the Cambodian people and especially preserving the potential of Cambodia's coastal areas.
The meeting was held at the Ministry's Office on the morning of April 9, 2024, led by His Excellency Say Sam Al, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction and Chairman of the NCCD, and attended by leaders of the Ministry of Land Management, NCCD leaders, the four coastal provincial administrations including Kampot, Kep, Sihanoukville and Koh Kong provinces, relevant institutions and the private sector, a total of approximately 150 people.
His Excellency Say Samal highly appreciated the efforts of the Secretariat General of the National Committee for the Management and Development of the Cambodian Coastal Zone, the private sector, development partners and all stakeholders who cooperated well and contributed to making good progress in the management, conservation, protection and development of the Cambodian coastal zone with high responsibility, aiming to develop the Cambodian coastal zone in a resilient, sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.
The meeting emphasized the continued promotion of the conservation and development of recreational beaches and recreational creeks in the Cambodian coastal zone to attract investment and economic, business and tourism development, and discussed the proposal for a tourist cycling route along the Cambodian coast, with a total length of approximately 460 km, connecting Kep, Kampot, Sihanoukville and Koh Kong provinces, aiming to transform the Cambodian coastal zone into a modern national development pole with sustainability, vitality, health and well-being.
The coastal zones of the Kingdom of Cambodia, including Kep, Kampot, Sihanoukville and Koh Kong provinces, were included as full members of the World’s Most Beautiful Coast Club on May 26, 2011 in Toubatou, Senegal. Cambodia’s coastal areas have the potential for economic, social, commercial, industrial, agricultural development and are popular coastal and island tourism destinations that attract millions of national and international tourists each year and are known as the “Rising Star of the Southwest of Cambodia”.
With the aim of building Cambodia into a civilized country with a vision of 2050, the coastal areas of the Kingdom of Cambodia have the vision of becoming modern national development poles with sustainability, vitality, health and well-being to participate in the development of Cambodia as a country with vitality, high income and a resilient economy, a highly educated population with a life-long skill set, people living in dignity, happiness and equity, with a harmonious physical and natural environment, resilience, climate, and a balance between development and conservation of natural resources.
