(Phnom Penh): The Tuol Sleng Genocide Memorial is not only a historical site of the killing of innocent people during the Pol Pot regime, but also a witness to a crime against humanity that warns the world and Cambodia not to repeat or repeat this barbaric crime again.

His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal, Minister of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, spoke at a meeting to discuss the construction case surrounding the Tuol Sleng Genocide Memorial at the Ministry’s headquarters on the afternoon of May 15, 2024.

We must clearly define the constructions surrounding the Tuol Sleng Genocide Memorial with long-term consideration because this decision will become a model for other cases in Cambodia.

His Excellency said that Cambodia is a country that has emerged from the blood and ashes of war, so the Royal Government must prevent this terrible tragedy from happening again.

All construction around the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum Historical Heritage Conservation Area must be carried out according to the master plan in accordance with the appropriate standards and regulations. In addition, it is necessary to work closely with relevant ministries and institutions to prepare a master plan nationwide and to better organize architectural and construction work to protect the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum Historical Heritage Conservation Area and other conservation areas throughout the country.
