(Phnom Penh): The leadership of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction said that we must prepare cities to be beautiful, have public spaces for citizens to exercise for health, have a strong economy, be a living city, including culture, civilization, traditions, and a peaceful and romantic village for all Cambodian citizens.

His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal spoke at the 2nd National Forum on “Cities and Housing” under the theme “Smart, Green, Resilient and Modern Cities” on the morning of May 30, 2024.

His Excellency said that Cambodia has been opening a new contemporary page under the right leadership and long-term vision of Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen.

The meeting is to discuss the possibility of implementing concrete work, thinking clearly and moving forward correctly without looking back and wasting time and resources.

He said that we need to plan cities based on our economic potential, such as the coastal areas, the northeast, Phnom Penh, and the northern Tonle Sap Lake area, by examining the potential of each area and considering the development of cities and housing in accordance with the dynamics of each area and their resilience to climate change, which can be used in the long term to promote faster development, promote national economic growth, and improve the living standards and well-being of the people.

His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister aims to transform Phnom Penh, Kep, Kampot, Siem Reap, and Kratie into cities that are on par with cities in the ASEAN region by 2050, including providing happiness to the people of the country, living with pride, and having people from the region and the world want to come to live in Cambodia’s cities.

It should be noted that the Second National Forum on Cities and Housing is a platform for multi-stakeholder dialogue to discuss and agree on strategic policy priorities and prioritize interconnected programs towards the goal of developing cities and housing in a smart, green, resilient, and environmentally friendly way.

This forum is also an opportunity for ministries, especially for the land management, urban planning, and housing sectors, to obtain more new inputs to improve policy development, legal documents, and implement work more effectively.
