(Phnom Penh): Ministry leaders held a working meeting and a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction and CMEC Group China at the ministry’s headquarters on August 2, 2024. CMEC Group China stated that the meeting was held to discuss the participation in the historic inauguration of the Funan Techo Canal on August 5.
The memorandum of understanding is the starting point for further cooperation between the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction and CMEC Group China. The company hopes that after collaborating on the Funan Techo Canal construction project, they will also continue to collaborate in implementing social obligations, such as building primary schools and infrastructure for soldiers in remote areas, etc.
In response, HE Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal, Minister of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, warmly welcomed CMEC Group China’s investment in Cambodia. Regarding CMEC Group China’s proposal, HE Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal discussed with the Minister of Public Works and Transport and the Minister of Economy and Finance, who are in charge of economic affairs and investment, to decide on which projects CMEC Group China should invest in, including the Funan Canal project. We have some necessary projects such as the construction of the Funan Techo Canal, the construction of a wastewater treatment system in Sihanoukville Province, and infrastructure such as bridges along the Mekong River. With this, HE spoke about the state of the real estate industry and construction sector in Cambodia and encouraged CMEC Group China to consider the real estate sector as well, and if the company invests in real estate, the investment will be processed quickly.
CMEC Group China has been operating since 1978 with more than 30,000 employees. In Cambodia, CMEC Group China has developed many projects, including power projects in Kampong Chhnang and Siem Reap provinces and the Morodok Techo National Stadium, which have received support from the Royal Government of Cambodia as well as the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction.
