(Phnom Penh): His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal, Minister of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, received a courtesy call and working discussion with the Japan-Cambodia Association (JCA) at the Ministry’s headquarters on the morning of November 18, 2024.

According to the President of the Japan-Cambodia Association, this is the fourth time that the Japan-Cambodia Association has made an official visit to Cambodia. Currently, he has observed that Cambodia has developed more rapidly in terms of investment from various countries, including Japan. He stated that the meeting was held with the aim of discussing the possibility of investment from Japanese companies in Cambodia.

In response, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal welcomed the visit of the JCA delegation to Cambodia and considered this to be a different time from the previous visit and a visit with many opportunities for the Japan-Cambodia Association. This is also a good opportunity for the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, which plans to hold its annual conference next week, which will be presided over by His Excellency Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. This is a proud moment for His Excellency, civil servants at all levels of the Ministry of Land Management, and the Royal Government of Cambodia, 7th Legislature of the National Assembly.

On that occasion, His Excellency highlighted the results of the ministry’s priority work that has been implemented so far, including land registration, which has so far achieved more than 3 million land parcels nationwide, and only about 500,000 land parcels are left to be completed. This is the first time in Cambodia’s history that land registration has been completed nationwide.

As for land disputes, so far, only less than 1,000 cases have been resolved, compared to more than 15,000 cases in the past. As for land and construction services, we have transformed them into digital systems that provide convenience for citizens to use.

At the same time, HE added that the work done by the Ministry has created a conflict-free environment for the first time in Cambodia’s history after liberation from the Pol Pot regime. HE the Deputy Prime Minister also mentioned new investment opportunities for Japan in several sectors, such as the expansion of the port in Sihanoukville province, with the ambition to turn it into the second largest port after Singapore.

In addition, HE also mentioned the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone as an important place to create jobs for the Cambodian people, as well as several other important investment destinations that Japan can cooperate in to help boost Cambodia’s economic performance. HE stated that everything that the 7th Royal Government of Cambodia has done today is to promote the smooth running of the Cambodian economy, with the hope of maintaining economic growth at around 7% annually.
